Since a feature length film is so long, distributors divide it into segments that happen to be rolled on to reels. A typical two-hour movie will most likely be divided into 5-6 reels. In the early days, films were proven with two projectors. One projector was threaded with the first reel and the other projector with the second reel with the movie.
